CIPEG statement

CIPEG opposes the proposed closure of Stockholm's Museum of Mediterranean, Near Eastern and Egyptian Art (the Medelhavsmuseet), as well as the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities due to financial reasons. Closing these museums, located in the heart of the city, would not only undermine their vital role as centres for research and education, but also diminish their capacity to foster cultural exchange and build connections among diverse communities in central Stockholm. Such spaces are particularly valuable in today’s increasingly polarised world. Sweden has every reason to take pride in these institutions, and we strongly encourage a reconsideration of the financial framework that now threatens their future.
